The ancient glassblowers folded over the edges of the hot glass to finish their work, creating a skinny hollow area that is perfect for stringing.
In a workshop on a kibbutz in Israel, jewelers soak the shards in water, removing layers of sediment and patina which has built up over the centuries, restoring the glass to its original blue green color. They then cut and file the pieces and string them as beads, spacing them with sterling silver pieces. A story card comes with each piece, making these a lovely gift.
