This lovely necklace is handmade by a Yemenite silversmith in Israel.
Carrying on the tradition he learned from his grandfather, this Israeli artist braids together extremely thin strands of silver to create the filigree work. Then he oxidizes the silver to make it look antique and hand-cuts a shard of ancient Roman glass to give the pendant its dazzling color. The delicate pendant is complemented by a 16-inch strand of cultured pearls (choose from classic white or smoky lavender). The necklace is finished in back with a secure sterling silver lobster claw clasp.
The Roman glass is nearly 2000 years old. A story card explains how the color has accumulated over many centuries of being buried. The glass is regularly unearthed by archaeologists sifting through the remains of Roman Empire cities. Those shards without museum value may be bought by artisans.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce slight variations in color, form, and sizing. All measurements are approximate.
