This extraordinary carpet is made by Tsondu Tharchin, a talented Tibetan Refugee in Nepal. By crafting his traditional hand-knotted creations, Tsondu is able to support his community and culture in exile.
Each 100-percent wool carpet is certified by the RUGMARK Foundation, which verifies that only adults participate in the carpet-making process. Children have never been employed in any stage of the making of Tibetan Refugee Settlement carpets.
This carpet is sized to fit on many chairs as a pad, and will help create a comfortable space for sitting meditation. It is also suitable for framing and hanging on the wall. It features 100 knots per square inch. Color banding in the main field of the carpet reveals the hand-dyed yarn. A beautiful wine colored blossom rests on a rich cadet blue main field. A border of deep navy blue surrounds all four sides.
Most carpets contain Tibetan Buddhist symbols and design elements. The chrysanthemum blossom with a small lotus at the center is representative of compassion.
