These rich earrings feature a large faceted smoky quartz surrounded by goldstones, a rust and goldspeckled semi-precious stone.
This iridescent blue glass comes from an archaeological dig in Israel, found in the splendid ruins where ancient Roman cities once stood. The glass is crushed and mixed with a resin to give it a rough texture, then inlaid like a paste, much the same way ancient mosaics were made. The result is quite a conversation piece. Each piece includes a story card about Roman glass.
This piece is made in a studio near the town of Rananaa in Israel. Many Eastern European immigrants as well as native born Israelis work there. Each pearl and bead is inlaid painstakingly by hand creating a richly textured and beautiful piece of wearable art.
Please do not get your jewelry wet. Treat it as if it were 2,000 years old. Avoid showering or swimming with your jewelry on, and don't use hairspray near it. It's recommended that you not even touch it frequently -- oils from your hands may alter the glass color and remove its luster. Clean the silver with a cloth, but try not to rub the ancient glass.
