According to Hopi mythology, the Morning Singer, or 'Talavai,' appears on the rooftops of pueblos at dawn, singing his harmonious songs to awaken the villagers. Though every artist comes up with a different interpretation of the Morning Singer, certain design elements carry through such as the cloud symbols on each cheek. This handsome doll has been handcarved from native cottonwood trees by an artist of the Page, Arizona area.
