Prompted by decades of unrest, the UN set up the Babou camp in Pakistan for the thousands of displaced refugees from Afghanistan. Because most of them did not have a traditional male bread earner, the Afghani women would sell off personal belongings in order to purchase materials to make hand-knitted items hoping to sell or trade them for what they needed. These gloves were made in that camp.
