The Escaflowne series follows the exploits of a young schoolgirl, Hitomi Konzaki, who is an ordinary enough high school student until a column of light transports Hitomi to a strange world called Gaea. Hitomi aligns herself with a young knight named Van, whom she saw in a vision prior to being transported, and they begin a perilous journey with Escaflowne, the legendary god of protection. Here, Asturia tries to rally all of Gaea against Zaibach after a key Zaibach figure turns against his brethren.
